Why You Should Join the Running of the Elk This March

Looking for a way to kick off spring with a burst of energy and community spirit? The 14th Annual Running of the Elk on March 30, 2025, is calling your name! Hosted at District56 (8230 Civic Center Dr, Elk Grove, CA), this beloved event is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of fitness, family, and the power of giving back.

The day starts bright and early with race day packet pickup at 7:00 AM, followed by the Kids’ Fun Runs at 8:00 AM. Little runners ages 6 and under will take on a 1/4-mile course, while kids ages 7-12 will conquer a 1/2-mile loop—each finisher gets a cotton t-shirt and medal to celebrate their effort. At 8:30 AM, the 5K and 10K races begin, welcoming runners of all levels (and yes, strollers too!). Whether you’re chasing a personal best or just enjoying the scenic course, you’ll love the supportive vibe.

Participants score some fantastic swag, including a moisture-wicking t-shirt, an acrylic finisher medal, and a post-race party with pancakes, fruit, games, and more. Competitive runners can aim for the top spots—overall male and female 5K winners snag special prizes, while age-group champs (from 9 and under to 80+) earn custom elk-themed awards.

What makes this event extra special? All proceeds go to the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation, helping local kids access sports programs regardless of their circumstances. By running, you’re not just crossing a finish line—you’re making a difference. Grab your packet on March 29 at Fleet Feet Elk Grove, or join us on race day. Let’s run for the kids, the community, and a whole lot of fun!
